Punk40 - The Damned - 24th November 2016 - The Dome, Brighton

It seem appropriate that my very last posts celebrating 40 Years of Punk, is from the Damned's 40th Anniversary Tour. It was an amazing night, packed out with a crowd that was there for a good time.

We were not disappointed. The night started well with great support from Original Brighton Punk's the Piranhas (or Piranhas 4 as they now call themselves) - I'll post their set a bit later.

Captain Sensible was a great host and Dave Vanian was at the top of his game.

On the night they played the first ever British punk LP - Damned, Damned, Damned as well as a whole host of hits from their extensive back catalogue.

the recording download comes with full CD artwork created by myself.

well I'm nearing the end of my own personal Punk40 celebrations with only one more recording from 1976 to share (after this one).
This one is not the greatest quality sounding one, but there are so few live recordings from '76 out there that I wanted to share all that I have.

I've created some cd artwork for it, that will be in the download file.

    I hope you enjoy this.

Punk40, Sex Pistols - 5th September 1976, Chalet du Lac, Paris France

Well here it is - Sex Pistols gold - Chalet du Lac 1976. Everyone knew both nights were recorded but for 40 years only a very few select people have been able listen to the recording,

Hopefully the recording of the first night will be shared soon. But for now this recording will have to  titillate your ears.

I have created CD artwork to go with the recording which is available in the download for you all.

    T

Please note I believe this to be a mislabeled gig and I actually think its the second night in Paris from 5th September.

On release it has been billed as the first night.

My reasoning is this - from the God save the Sex Pistols site, in an interview with someone who was at both gigs it has been stated that the second gig was shorter in length due to the band having to catch a plane.
The set list posted on the GSTSP site states that Flowers was played at the start and a 2 track encore (Did You No Wrong and Anarchy) at the end. Yet all 3 of these tracks are missing from this recording. The supplier of this recording states it is the complete gig (and there's no reason to doubt that claim) - therefore logically this must be the shorter second gig on the 5th.

If anyone can categorically clear this up, without any doubt please get in touch.

Whatever the truth is this is still a fantastic recording - very, very enjoyable to listen to.

A massive thank you must go to Partners in Crime from France, for sharing this with all of us - it's very much welcomed and appreciated.

40 Years of Punk - what it means to me

So here we are - Anniversary Year. Already people have different opinions on this. Some see it as pointless getting wrapped up in nostalgia, reminiscing about the past....some seeing it as us old punks denying our age.

Some are promoting it as a cause for celebration- possibly the last youth movement that made a difference & had a real lasting impact.

Certainly there will be a lot of chat looking t things with rose tinted glasses.

I see many sites where old punks cant even agree about what Punk was all about- the music, the clothes, politics, a way of life.

For me I shall treat this year as a celebration- Punk the music was the first form of music that I liked for myself, that I had chosen off my own back and not because I had heard it via friends or family.

For me it was about deciding for myself what to say, think or wear. Question everything, accept nothing on trust. Punk taught me to see everyone as equals until you know different.

Punk wasnt about barriers or uniforms, although PUNKS themselves made the punk image a uniform, which most of us eventually bought into. We also then divided ourselves & created our own barriers, which in my opinion was so negative. One example I still remember is CRASS punks saying things about Exploited fans and vice verse.
PUNK diluted itself and lost its voice, but I was left with some great music and bands that still excite me today. Not so much a movement anymore but still a great source of joy.

I expect EBAY to be flooded with shit loads of memorabilia this year and all for silly prices and I expect collectors looking for an investment will outbid the fans that really care about it all. I expect many Corporate entities to jump on the band wagon & milk us for our hard earned cash. Loads of compilation albums and magazines all ready to distribute, I must admit that I'm bound to buy a few things here and there.

But there will be smaller independent groups doing their own thing in celebration- make sure they are supported as well.

I hope this year will show the younger generation that they can have a go if they are determined enough - they dont need Simon Cowell or his X Factor generation- with effort & hard work dreams can come to- you dont need a record label, a manager- you can DO IT YOURSELF.

I will enjoy this Year with absolutely no guilt at all - it was a part of my life that introduced me to music that I still love, I met friends that I still know today.

Some of You FUCKERS out there will talk about how wonderful PUNK was, but at the time you were NOT a fan. I was a PUNK, I remember all of you cunts that sneered at us, attacked us physically & verbally, put us down, treated us like shit. You can jump on the bandwagon this year you shallow fools... the rest of us will carry a bit of pride that we were part of it.

We lived it we love it
