PIL - Lancaster University, Lancashire - 9th December 1983

Yep - it's the cabaret PIL - this one is not easy to find, so of course I'm sharing it with you lot.

This is the last recording from the 1983 Tour that I have that hasnt already been shared.

Ten is a nice round number............is it time to face my final curtain????

2019 will be the 10th Year that Acid Drops has been around for. It will probably be the last.

I'm running out of things to share, and although stuff does crop up from time to time, there isnt enough of it to keep this an interesting place to visit.

I still have some PIL gigs and gigs from other Punk bands to share ( these punk gigs are from 1979), but you lot have literally been given my whole collection.

I dont want to grab stuff off other sites and repost it here...thats just boring. I have grabbed the occasional gig from elsewhere of course but I dont want to do that too much.

So keep looking for me, lets make next year a good one. Thanks everyone, the journey hasnt finished...yet

PIL - Rainbow Theatre, Finsbury Park, London - 25th December 1978

Since I started blogging audience recordings 10-11 years ago (this particular blog 9 years ago) - I have been lucky enough to share with you some amazing recordings, some in great quality, some rare and hard to find and I've even managed to track down a fair few that no one knew previously existed.

Tonight I can give you the Holy Grail of sought after recordings. everyone assumed it had been recorded, but no one had a copy of even had heard of a copy...........well in the last couple of days it has finally surfaced.

PIL's first ever UK gig on Christmas Day 1978 - and it's an absolute corker . This is taken from the Master recording - I'm so happy to be able to listen to this & share it with you all.

Very appropriate that this has surfaced in Anniversary Year .

Much Thanks & gratitude goes to 6666trac for making this available

This comes with artwork that I created.

Generation Sex - Chrome Factory, New York - A Review from Bob Cat

I've been lucky enough to have been sent a first hand account, from Bob Cat, of Generation Sex's second ever gig. Bob also sent me some photos to share.
Massive thanks to Bob Cat

Generation Sex -  Punk Rock Meets Cool Chrome Fashion !!!

GENERATION SEX -The Punk Rock Super Group of Ex- Generation X members Billy Idol & Tony James along with Ex- Sex Pistols Steve Jones & Paul Cook invaded the West Side of NYC for a Blazing Set of Punk Classics. A very intimate 2nd floor loft party for Chrome Hearts Fashion Brand was the setting for a High Energy Punk Rock Show.

Kickin off the Set with Ready Steady Go the sound was pulsating through the windows onto the quiet West Village streets where the neighbors were awaken from Sunday TV Time to Billy Idols Snarling Vocals and Steve Jones Ripping Les Paul Guitar Attack!!!

Turn the Clock Back 40 years and THIS IS WHAT the beginning  of PUNK ROCK FELT LIKE,
Standing Room Only .. No Stage .. No Barriers Just High Energy Rock n Roll and Tons of Big City Attitude!!! Whats That Noise screamed the neighbor in her Sunday PJs !!!
I Said its Billy Fuckin Idol !!! Generation Sex has come to Rock your World !!!

The Set was Brilliant and the Band Was On Fire. Tony James on the Bass and Paul Cook on Drums - Killer Rhythm Section and Tight as a Ludwig Snare Drum Head.  Glam Punk Looks and Killer Tunes mixing Sex Pistols classics and Generation X hits, such as  God Save The Queen and Dancing With Myself. Jonesys Guitar solo in Black Leather was Proto-Punk Perfection with James & Cook kept that Sleazy Groove Pumpin.

The highlight of a nearly flawless set was Kiss Me Deadly the Generation X tune recorded on their debut album released in 1978! Kiss Me Deadly provided the backdrop for musical dynamics and the slow build intro into the Crashing chorus, Steve Jones guitar was stellar and really showcased his ability to go from 2 to 11 as Mr Idol gave us a fine vocal performance and Tons of Glamour Stage Presence. Another personal favorite Silly Thing was incredible and with added backing vocals from James, Jones and Cook the Chorus was Pure Punk Rock Melody.

A Dream Like Setting for Generation Sex and perhaps it was ALL Just Another Dream ..
Like Catching Lightening in a PUNK ROCK Bottle !!!
For 1 Night in the Big Apple Time Stood Still and Life Was A Punk Rock Babylon.

Cool Notes: I named my first band Wild Youth in 1980 after a Generation X song and they did a Killer version.
Another band of mine Freddys Nightmare did a Cover of Black Leather. Nice To Hear Jones play the Killer Guitar Riff Live On Stage.
My Current band 1.4.5. plays God Save The Queen. So Cool to See Cook n Jones Play the Power Chords Loud & Clear !!!

Songs I Would LOVE Generation SeX to add to their Rockin  Set List
Here We Go Again - Conned Again - All The Nasty Girls -
Motor Bikin  - Just Another Dream - Action Man

Sound Advice: Always Follow The Pretty People  (Wink)

Pete Jones - Book & Solo Album update

I received an email the other day from Pete giving an update of his current solo projects. Having been a fan of Pete's solo work I can honestly say that I'm excited about the new album. His book also is another on my wants list. Pete's dry wit and tales of his many years in the music business is going to be a great read. More info when I get it.

Here's his update - Cheers Pete

''Hi Gang,

Joyless Jones here sending you an update on things.

The book is trundling on; I have had 4 advance edit copies printed to send to my trustworthy editors to rip apart. I'm hoping they will be kind to me. It will ruin me if one typo slips through the net, I hate that. So I'm hoping that any errors are caught soon and it all makes sense, it's around 85,000 words so there's a lot of checking to be done. I'm hoping to have the edit and re-write completed by end of the year.

My new solo album Contrivances For The Soul is almost complete, just one last guitar solo to go on and I'm hoping Leigh Heggarty from Ruts DC can get over to my studio soon to record it for me. He will be the only other musician on the album, everything else is me. Then it will go off for mastering by Pete Maher who masters for U2 amongst others.

The release date for the album is set for March 15th 2019, it will soon come around, and I may try to tie in the book and album launch at the same time, makes sense.

The current run of dates with the Rezillos has sadly come to an end. What a blast it was, such fun. Both bands got on really well, look out for some more Rezillos/Department S news for next year!

That's all for now, keep warm, stay safe and keep in touch

Joyless''
