Punk40 - The Damned - 24th November 2016 - The Dome, Brighton
It seem appropriate that my very last posts celebrating 40 Years of Punk, is from the Damned's 40th Anniversary Tour. It was an amazing night, packed out with a crowd that was there for a good time.
We were not disappointed. The night started well with great support from Original Brighton Punk's the Piranhas (or Piranhas 4 as they now call themselves) - I'll post their set a bit later.
Captain Sensible was a great host and Dave Vanian was at the top of his game.
On the night they played the first ever British punk LP - Damned, Damned, Damned as well as a whole host of hits from their extensive back catalogue.
the recording download comes with full CD artwork created by myself.

Mr Rotten's Songbook - an open letter
An open letter to John Lydon & Public Image Ltd
3rd December 2016
Dear John/ PIL
I would like to compliment you on the wonderful new book
that you are releasing – Mr Rotten’s Songbook, it certainly looks like a great
quality item
I am writing to vent my frustration and sadness about this
though. I don’t disagree that it is a quality product but you are pricing your
fans out of the market.
John, you come from a working class background and I think I
need to point out that a very large number of your fans are working class. We
are NOT high income earners but we are very loyal to you and the products that
you release. BUT we cannot afford this sort of money, no matter how fantastic
the book is. Yet we would all love to support you by buying a copy and parting with
our hard earned cash..
I belong to a lot of PIL fans sites/blogs and facebook
groups and a large number of us feel the same – we feel that we are being edged
out of fandom to make way for an elite group of fans that are higher income
earners. This has upset a lot of us. Our loyalty and dedication to PIL IS NOT
IN QUESTION.
Very few of us could afford Mr Rotten’s Scrapbook.
Again few of us can afford the vinyl Super Deluxe Boxset
releases of Album and Metal Box – due out in a week or so.
And now many (not a few) are also being denied the chance to
own a copy of the SongBook.
We buy your records, CD’s posters, clothes etc and go to
your gigs. We love your music and many of us have been with you since day one.
Please consider that it feels like you are alienating us.
I am asking you to look into 2 options to help make us feel
loved and wanted again J,
please.
Would you consider releasing further copies of the Song Book
in a standard softback (paper back release) without any signed/handwritten messages
at a lower affordable price?
I think that most
people would be willing to part with between £30- £50 for this option (I could be
wrong, I could be right?)
Or alternatively release a digital download version where
the production costs are minimal?
This will give all fans the chance of owning this unique
insight into your work, so that the many and not the few can fully appreciate
it?
Please, please read and consider what I have said and asked –
a reply would be wonderful.
Thank You
Steve
Ps I have posted this open letter on a few fan sites as I
wish others to consider what I have said and hopefully voice their own feelings
– I think you’ll find that we would all love the chance to own a copy

Glen Matlock - 7th November 2016 - Komedia, Brighton
Glen has been doing a solo tour of the UK this month. Just him, a few stories and his guitar. It was a great night out and very entertaining. I've seen Glen many times down the years but never performing an acoustic set. So this was a first for me.
His stories were touched with humour and the setting was quite intimate. After the gig he signed a few things for the fans and posed for photos.
Glen played a good variety of songs from his career as well as ones that he had been influenced by. Of course there was a couple of obligatory Sex Pistols tracks as well.
Here's my recording of the night. the download comes with cd artwork which I created myself.

Punk40 - The Stranglers -23rd October 1976 - Hammersmith Odeon, London
well I'm nearing the end of my own personal Punk40 celebrations with only one more recording from 1976 to share (after this one).
This one is not the greatest quality sounding one, but there are so few live recordings from '76 out there that I wanted to share all that I have.
I've created some cd artwork for it, that will be in the download file.
I hope you enjoy this.

Jim Walker - artwork available
Original founding PIL member Jim Walker has been quite an elusive chap over the years. After leaving PIL Jim was involved with The Human Condition (alongside fellow PIL member Jah Wobble) and then the Pack .
Jim dropped off my radar for quite a few years but recently I have been managed to track him down. He's been involved with some film work and also has been creating some very interesting artwork, which is available to buy and unbelievably affordable prices.
The piece above was available last year from WH Smith stores as a poster and is entitled
'' Britain Shall Not Burn''
I find his work very interesting and you can buy some from his website for a reasonable price.
you can also follow Jim on twitter
Check him out, say hello and buy some art

Sad Vacation - World Exclusive interview with Co writer & Producer - Brett Dunford.
Well I am very, very pleased to be able to bring you a World Exclusive!!!!
I have been very lucky to be given an interview with Brett Dunford, Sad Vacation's co-writer and Producer.
Interview with Sad Vacation co-writer and producer, Brett Dunford
PH: Now that Sad Vacation is ready for release how do you feel about the finished product
BD: I feel fucking good about it. I was able to view the documentary at various creative stages, so I had a pretty good idea of how it would turn out. But you can never be one hundred percent sure until you've seen the end result. And it goes beyond what I expected.
PH: How and when did your involvement start?
BD: I was brought into it during the final months of production. As you know, I run a leading Sid and Nancy blog and Facebook community, and have been writing a biography on Sid called Vicious White Kid for a couple of years now. We first hooked up when I interviewed him for my blog in April 2014, which was one of his first interviews for Sad Vacation, funnily enough. Exactly two years later and he's interviewing me!
Phyllis Stein set the whole thing up, really. And the more I talked to Danny, the more I realised we were totally on the same page. Other than the anecdotes that I give in the film, I was also consultant, oversaw some of the London reenactment shoots, and helped write part of the narrative.
PH: Reenactments?
BD: I dragged Conor Hussey of The Sex Pistols Experience out in the pissing rain for a couple of days, poor lad. I was present on the first day and it was uncanny watching him walking around London and acting like Sid; he really looked the part.
PH: What are you most proud of about the film as a whole?
BD: I'm happy that we made a solid documentary that presents facts instead of the usual unprovable distractions. I think it's as close as we're ever going to get to solving the events of the Chelsea Hotel.
PH: Tell me something exclusive.
BD: Huey Morgan of the Fun Lovin' Criminals does the narration, although I think that information is up at IMDb already. Um, what else? Sad Vacation contains more unseen photographs of Sid and Nancy in one place than anything else on the market right now. It's a photo collector's wet dream, and some of them are quite "personal".
PH: When can the public see it?
BD: It opens in London through the Doc' n Roll Festival. At Picturehouse Central, Shaftesbury Avenue on November 6th.
PH: Apart from the London premiere, are there plans for a wider theatrical release?
BD: We have one other date already in Philadelphia, and screenings for Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Texas are being ironed out as we speak. Territories outside of the UK and US are also in the works.
PH: Will there be related merchandise?
BD: Yes. The DVD drops on December 9th worldwide, and there will probably be the usual related stuff like t-shirts and posters, but I have no idea of when they might be available to purchase. The safest bet would be around the time of the DVD release. You can stay up-to-date via the official Sad Vacation Facebook page, and at the Chip Baker website.
PH: Are there any extras?
BD: You'll get a behind-the-scenes featurette, some promotional material like the theatrical and teaser trailers. and a couple of music videos. Another thing I should mention is that Sad Vacation has a great soundtrack.
PH: Anything special planned for the premieres that you can divulge?
BD: Maaaybe! But if I divulged them now, they wouldn't be special.
BD: The truth. Or as fucking close to it as humanly possible at this juncture. If you have seen Danny's previous film, Looking for Johnny, then you will know what to expect. He's a guerrilla filmmaker and gets shit done on half the budget of other documentarians. And Sad Vacation is his best film to date, in my opinion.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well there you have it, a true first with some exclusive info for you all - A MASSIVE THANK YOU to Brett for taking the time to speak with me and letting me get this interview to you all.
Be sure to check out Sad Vacation very soon - the must see Punk film for Punk's 40th Anniversary

Sad Vacation is coming soon
Quote from Brett Dunford ''"Sad Vacation" gets better every time I click play. From start to finish, it treads the right balance of punk attitude and murder investigation, contains a hefty chunk of rare and unseen media, gives the cast a fair old shake (especially Nancy), and is just an all-round slice of gritty, underground rock and roll filmmaking. It's a fucking juggernaut!''
Sad Vacation gets its U.S. Premier on November 18th 2016.
from Sad Vacation Facebook page ''LOUD! FAST! PHILLY! presents the Philadelphia premiere of the new documentary on the final days of Sid and Nancy with special guest Kenny "Stinker" Gordon (PURE HELL).
