Introducing ...Healthy Junkies

Today I want to bring to your attention another Independent Band that I only recently discovered and think you'll love. Healthy Junkies. They've been going for a few years and already have a great back catalogue of music.

Edited from their Facebook page
''Nina Courson, Healthy Junkies glamorous yet rebel lead punkster ran away from home, in Paris, when she was fourteen.then moved to London in 2007 to pursue her own rock n roll rite of passage.
Nina took several low paying day jobs to keep her night’s free to scour the clubs in London for a band and destiny awaited when she found guitarist Phil-Honey-Jones. Naming the band Healthy Junkies, reflecting the mental health epidemic currently spreading like wildfire through the core of the western society.

The other full time band members include Dave Whitmore on bass and Pumpy on drums. Dave has also contributed to the songwriting on the new album and brought a breath of fresh air to the band in terms of sound and mayhem. They have been hitting the road hard in the UK and Europe for a few years now and so have built a large following, pulling 500+ at the Arena stage for Rebellion Punk Festival 2018. During these years of constant gigging the band have supported such iconic punk bands as The UK Subs, GBH, 999, The Rezillos, Theatre of Hate, Sham 69, The Professionals and The Damned. These bands have inspired Healthy Junkies in their writing and given the band a punk rock edge to mix with their grunge/goth and psychedelic rock roots. The touring continues with European, UK and US tours booked for 2019.
“Delirious Dream” the band's fourth studio album was released on Banana Castle Records via Cargo Records in October 2018. It was recorded at Bark Studios by Brian O’Shaughnessy who recorded Primal Scream and My Blood Valentine at the very same studio in the 90s. It was mastered by Pete Maher whose recent projects have included The Pixies, The Rolling Stones and Jack White.

They also have been running their own monthly night in Camden Town, London for six years now. It is called Punk and Roll Rendezvous. The night has become so successful that they decided to host a 3- day festival both in 2017 and 2018 . The criteria for the night is FREE entry and always with at least one band on the bill from outside London, sometimes abroad. They will be scouting for US bands to bring over to London to play their much sought after night. Punk and roll rendezvous and Healthy junkies have one main goal; that is to bring people together. ''

Introducing ...Finding Kate

On 6th July I went to see Hands Off Gretel play at the Albert in Brighton. It was a fantastic night. For me I had a lovely surprise....Finding Kate.

I had never seen or heard of this act before but I was left blown away by Kate's powerful vocals and her excellent band. My only regret is I dont have a recording of the gig to share with you.

I'm so impressed with her I wanted to share with you all.

Finding Kate is the alter ego of Kate Pavli, she writes and performs her own material. Kate has also self released a debut album, If I Fall, back in 2016, which is still available at a low price direct from her own site. I havent stopped playing it.

Please check her out and give her support. She has no big time promoters behind her, she's making her own way so lets try and support her. Get to a gig, if you see her name you know you will have a good evening I promise you.

Kate has just released a new single called '' I Feel Bad'' please check it out. It's a great example of how good she really is.

Kate is one to watch.

Taken from Kate's FB page
''Finding Kate is an Alternative/Rock solo artist based in London. Hailing all the way from Australia and Cyprus, this rocker proves she is a force to be reckoned with. Her powerful vocals, melodic songs and dark music separate her from the crowd.''

Review - The SoapGirls - Lewes Con Club - 30th June 2019

South Africa’s SoapGirls are here to stay. Their style of all inclusive punk rock is exciting to listen to. The sisters Mie and Mille are clever, intelligent and fun to be around. They absolutely adore their fans and spend as much time as possible interacting with them online and at gigs.

Let’s get the Elephant in the Room out of the way….they play topless, in fairness so does the drummer, but no one talks about Sam (which is a shame as he’s bloody good). But don’t let their painted bodies take away from the fact that they deliver, they are not all hype.

The SoapGirls will tell you there’s more offensive things in the World than a nipple. Poverty, homelessness, abuse, wars – absolutely correct.

Don’t be afraid of these ladies. They can sing and boy can they play. They are genuinely talented and seeing them live is an absolute pleasure.

The Lewes Con Club is an excellent venue and The SoapGirls played a powerful set which lasted about 90 minutes. It was a hot and sweaty night and the crowd were well into the band. People were dancing singing along and generally having a great time. That’s how good the band are.
They played fan favourites Jonny Rotten (about a serial killer NOT the Sex Pistol), a favourite of mine, Party in Hell, and what is turning into an absolute anthem Society’s Reject. Also a few songs off the soon to be released new album were in the set. White Flag is excellent and I love My development

Mie is always smiling on stage, she loves what she does and it shows. Mille is so energetic, she was definitely born a rocker.

Towards the end they played Bad Bitch, this is a song where they traditionally get a few fans on stage for a bit of audience participation. Tonight was no exception, but no one expected one of the audience to think ‘fuck it’. He stripped off stark bollock naked and spent the rest of the set dancing around naked on stage, all in good fun. The rest of the audience loved it…Sam the Manager may have had to keep her eye on him, but it was all done in fun and she needn’t have worried

So there you have it, an amazing night out. I cant wait to see them again.  If you get the chance then make sure you do, you wont regret it. They are not backed by any big time promoters. They are doing this the hard way, week in week out, on their own. Support them if you can and do yourself a favour buy their albums Calls for Rebellion and Society’s Rejects.

The new album Elephant in the Room is due out in the next 2 weeks. This band get better and better, I’m sure the new album will be the best one yet.
