John Lydon - 26th April 2015, 100 Club Q & A - a review by Kevin Harris

Last Sunday John Lydon did his final UK Q&A for his Anger is an Energy book. Fan Kevin Harris was there & has been kind enough to write a quick review for Acid Drops. His also shared a few photos he took .

The Review:

I catch the train down too London from Wolverhampton on Sunday 26th April 2015 arrive in London Euston at about 3pm check into a Travelodge in Kings Cross.

Drop my bits n pieces off and get ready for my 1st mission off on a pilgrimage to John Lydons home where he lived as a boy/teenager with his mom and dad at number 1 Honeyfield which is a flat on the six acres estate Finsbury Park, North London ,it seems a bit of a rough old council estate that's been done up a bit since Johnny was last there.

Anyway I take a few pics and get on my way and head back too kings cross grab myself a couple of drinks and something too eat and by that time its about 6pm so I start heading over towards Oxford St, 100 Club on the tube.
I get off the tube and start walking down Oxford St. All of a sudden I see this queue about 3 deep which runs down from the 100 Club door to the crossroads with Wardour St and guess what I'm at the end of it.
I was standing there for about 10 mins then I hear this shouting I turn around and there's Johnny Lydon hanging out the back window of a people carrier car shouting ''don't fucking go in I aint there yet. I'm going to get a fuckin drink'', which I thought was great.
About 20 mins pass and the start letting people in. eventually I get inside and the stage is set with two chairs and a table with drinks on it the lights are down low and the Pistols, PIL, Iggy and the Stooges, and the New York Dolls are blasting out thru the speakers. Then walking thru the crowd to the stage comes John Lydon and his mate Johnny Rambo and a woman interviewer.
They start off talking about John's childhood, born to Irish parents and living on a rough council estate, then move onto John when he got meningitis and about when he lost his memory thru the disease.
They then move onto early Pistols stuff ie hanging out with Sid and Viv Albertine, which johnny remembers Viv being a bit of a posh bird. He then says that she wrote about him in her recent book he starts laughing that she states he wanked on her jeans and that she was a bit unimpressed onetime that she slept in bed one night with Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten and didn't get shagged.
I seem too remember Johnny stating that he thought that Johnny Thunders was the best lead guitar player he had ever seen, and that jimmy Pursey called Sham 69 Sham 69 cos jimmy didn't know how too do the 69 position and when he did try it it was a sham. He had the whole audience laughing.

Johnny is very funny tonight, he's on form with his antics and his tales about his life and he seems very relaxed and at ease and said he wished he could come off stage and have a drink with all of us.

A couple of other bits I remember  John calling Sid's mom a fucking spiteful bitch as when john and Sid used too hang around together, before the pistols, they used to go to each others houses. John said Sid was always made welcome by Mrs Lydon. John's Mom would always feed him, there was always food for both of them when they arrived, but when Johnny went too Sid's moms, he said she was so spiteful she would make him feel unwelcome and never gave him something too eat even though she cooked something for Sid and he said he hated her for giving Sid heroin.

On that note he blasts at Malcolm McClaren, saying how the hell did he think he invented ''me! Johnny Rotten and punk'' he said ''I am who I am and punk would've happened one way or another'' and stated that when they tried too ban the word bollocks he alone went to court in Nottingham to defend it. Malcolm didn't turn up or the other Pistols - anyway it didn't matter cos he won the case, as the evening comes to a finale after loads of questions answered we are told too take a raffle ticket too the table by the exit door and were all given a stamped collectors edition of Johns new autobiography. All in all everyone seemed to have had a good night.

A BIG THANKS to Kevin for sharing his words & photos with us all.
